Axel G. Rossberg, FHEA, holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics, has 30 years of experience developing simple quantitative descriptions of complex systems, and is currently Reader in Theoretical Ecology at Queen Mary University of London. He is leading a £1.2M research project to predict large-scale biodiversity responses to environmental change and recently a more applied project to develop and implement biodiversity credit metrics as part of UK’s Nature Positive Research program, where he holds a coordinating role. Before joining Queen Mary, he was Principal Scientist at the UK’s Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science, providing advice on biodiversity metrics to the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, the OSPAR Commission, and UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Axel is co-founder and Chair of the International Initiative for Theoretical Ecology, author of the award-winning monograph Food Webs and Biodiversity: Foundations, Models, Data and leads a postgraduate training program on Artificial Intelligence in the Biosciences.
