Head of Forestry
Unique Land Use
Thomas Asbeck holds a PhD in forest management and conservation (Dr. rer. nat.) and leads the forestry department at unique land use GmbH. After more than five years of scientific experience, he specializes in integrative forest management systems under climate change scenarios. Data acquisition and analysis from forest carbon and biodiversity surveys are the focus of his work. Through his work, he links forest management and carbon sequestration at the landscape level to enable additional income streams for forest owners from private capital. He developed IFM strategies and carbon sequestration estimations for projects in multiple countries. In addition, he was involved in methodologyrevisions of the VCS and conducted several background studies for the development of a German carbon standard (Waldklimastandard). Lately, Thomas and his team is developing a large-scale ARR project in Germany for the restoration of severely degraded forests due to climate change effects and subsequent forest pests (bark beetle).
