Dr. Siti Maryam Yaakub is the Senior Director of the International Blue Carbon Institute (IBCI) at Conservation International, where she leads global efforts to translate blue carbon science into actionable strategies across policy, finance, and ecosystem management. Based in Singapore, Dr Siti guides the institute’s mission to protect and restore blue carbon ecosystems for their vital contributions to climate regulation, biodiversity conservation, and coastal livelihoods.
Under her leadership, IBCI serves as a bridge between science and implementation, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and building enabling conditions for scalable blue carbon solutions. She works in close partnership with Conservation International’s Blue Climate team to co-develop policy frameworks, mobilize innovative finance, and support capacity-building initiatives that empower governments, communities, and practitioners to advance equitable and effective blue carbon action.
A marine ecologist by training, Dr Siti’s research focuses on ecosystem resilience and restoration. Her work integrates applied science with strategic partnerships to unlock the full potential of coastal ecosystems for people and nature.
