Victor Giraldo is an expert in nature-based offsets project development and finance. He joined Trafigura’s Carbon Trading team in 2021 as Carbon Technical and Origination Director, responsible for evaluating and identifying high quality nature-based projects worldwide with the potential to generate carbon offsets. He is based in Medellin, Colombia.

With over 16 years of experience, Victor has led interdisciplinary teams worldwide to develop forestry, land use, payment for ecosystem services and avoided deforestation projects. He has certified and implemented international projects under voluntary and compliance carbon markets related to REDD+, ecosystems restoration, and reforestation.

Over the last five years, Victor has focused on designing strategies that will enable the implementation of nature-based offset projects by promoting public-private cooperation and investment, contributing to the twin global challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change.

Victor graduated from the National University of Colombia as a forest engineer and has a Master’s in Forest and Environmental Conservation with an emphasis in climate mitigation and a Master’s in Applied Economics, emphasizing environmental credits pricing.
