Niels Wielaard is the founder and co-director of Satelligence, a leading satellite-powered geodata analytics company providing daily insights into the global performance of agricultural production and supply chain risks, such as deforestation, forest fires, and flooding. He is determined to make a meaningful impact measuring progress with satellite-based analytics, with a focus on more sustainable agri-commodities. Niels received his MSc in Forestry with a specialization in Remote Sensing from Wageningen University in 2003. He is an expert on Monitoring Reporting Verification systems for REDD+ contributing to the international GEO Forest Carbon Tracking task initiative. Niels was an invited member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Working Group on Greenhouse Gas emissions I. In addition, he is a technical advisor to the European Commission on satellite monitoring issues related to the implementation of the EC Renewable Energy Directive.
