Level
Jo is a conservationist with extensive experience in developing and scaling community-led conservation projects. With a background in ecology, environmental assessment, specialist tour guiding and journalism, Jo combines scientific knowledge with practical application. He is a co-founder and CEO of Level responsible for business development and sustainability through financial management and sales. He guides the development of the company’s communications strategy and handles all client and investor relationships.
Jo co-founded Level’s subsidiary Carbon Tanzania in 2007 as a response to the need to find innovative and long-term solutions to the degradation of nature, with a specific focus on deforestation. The organisation applies business principles to implement effective, efficient and smart conservation solutions that enable Indigenous people and local resource owners to manage their natural resources in a sustainable and economically beneficial manner.
With a deep understanding of the ecology of forests and other terrestrial ecosystems, Jo advocates for integrated management of natural resources that genuinely includes the priorities of the people who exist in and around them.
