Dr Michael Musgrave has a PhD in Sustainable Development from St Andrews University, alongside over 25 years working in sustainable development, the management of conservation, the economics of carbon monetisation within communities, ecosystem accounting and assessment and entrepreneurial enterprise. He was a contributor to the SEEA working group and TNFD pilot program and is an ISO14064 certified GHG auditor.

An acclaimed academic he co founded Newt Natural Capital, a natural capital advisory firm and set up and leads the School of Natural Capital with a mission to develop principled, high integrity Leaders to manage and develop the earth's Natural Capital for the sustainable use and economic benefit of generations to come.

His driving ethos that expertise in business management for carbon and biodiversity, particularly in the global South, is crucial to unlock financial investment, ensures the development of high integrity carbon credits and will help fund the economic stewardship required to manage a large majority of the world’s Natural Capital. He has seen the ebb and flow of the carbon markets alongside the reality that Natural Capital is not a nice to have but should be implicitly written into the fabric of all business to drive economic growth.

Previous academic roles include a faculty member of the School of Wildlife Conservation, African Leadership University, a teaching fellow in Environment and Sustainability at Keele University in the UK, and Research Fellow at The African Wildlife Economy Institute, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
