Janneke Abels has been with Shell since 2002, advancing through various

business and finance roles across multiple divisions. Currently, she is

Vice President Nature Based Solutions (NBS) one of Shell’s Low Carbon

Solutions businesses.

Janneke brings over two decades of experience, spanning finance,

strategy, and low carbon business leadership. Prior to her current role, she

served as Vice President Finance for Low Carbon Solutions and led Shell’s Strategic Planning

function, shaping long-term direction across the portfolio. Her background combines financial

discipline with strategic insight into scaling new energy businesses.

Within Shell’s Nature Based Solutions business, Janneke is responsible for scaling a global

portfolio of high-quality nature-based projects that protect and restore ecosystems, while

helping customers in integrating credible carbon and nature strategies into their broader

decarbonisation pathways. Shell’s NBS activities invest in projects that deliver carbon reduction

alongside social and environmental co-benefits, often in collaboration with governments,

NGOs, and local partners.

Janneke holds a Master’s degree in International Business Studies from Maastricht University

and an Executive Master in Finance and Control from the University of Amsterdam. Janneke is

married with two sons and enjoys running, cooking, reading, traveling, yoga, and supporting her

sons’ sports activities.
